Das Kantonsrelief ist zurück im Schloss
Kreisrund bildet das Kantonsrelief im Dachstock des Schlosses den Ringkanton St. Gallen mit den eingeschlossenen Appenzell im Massstab 1:20'000 ab und schneidet das angrenzende Liechtenstein, die Kantone Graubünden, Thurgau, Zürich und Glarus an.
Die Topografie der Landschaft ist im Verhältnis 2:1 überhöht dargestellt. Die Siedlungsausbreitung dokumentiert den Stand der Jahrtausendwende.
Das Relief aus Gips wurde 1998 von der Modellbaufirma Gnädinger St. Gallen für die Turmzinne auf Schloss Werdenberg hergestellt und 2016 renoviert und mit Hörspuren ausgerüstet.
The circular relief model in the attic storey of the castle shows the canton of St. Gallen with Appenzell enclosed and with peripheral sections of neighbouring Liechtenstein and the cantons of Graubünden, Thurgau, Zurich and Glarus.
The scale of the model is 1:20,000 and the topography of the landscape is exaggerated to a ratio of 1:2. The model documents the extent of urbanisation at the turn of the millennium.
The plaster relief was made in 1998 by the St Gallen model-building firm Gnädinger for the battlement storey of Werdenberg Castle tower and was renovated in 2015/16.

HEAR THE SOUNDS OF THE CANTON
Gushing waters from Tamina Gorge, Vespers at St. Gallen Cathedral, a multistorey carpark in the town of Wil, cowbells by the autobahn – the relief takes you on a sonic voyage of discovery through the highly varied canton. Sound recordings have been made with a stereo microphone at a number of locations in the canton of St Gallen. A precise spatial recreation of selected sites is offered by means of sound, reminding us of familiar situations and localities.
HÖR MAL WIE DER KANTON TÖNT!
Wasserrauschen in der Taminaschlucht, Domvesper in der St. Galler Kathedrale, in einem Parkhaus in Wil oder Kuhglocken an der Autobahn – das Relief nimmt Dich mit auf eine Hörreise durch den vielfältigen Ringkanton und die umliegenden Gegenden. An ausgewählten Orten wurden Audioaufnahmen mit einem Kunstkopf-Stereomikrofon gemacht. Sie bilden den Ort für das Gehör räumlich genau ab und erinnern uns an bekannte Situationen und Orte.

Den Kanton Modellieren
Die Modellbauerfamilie Gnädinger aus St.Gallen berichtete während der Schlosseröffnung Anfang April 2017 über die Herstellung des Kantonsrelief sowie über Probleme und Lösungen dreidimensionaler Darstellung.
