AUDIO TALES IN THE CASTLE
AND THE SCHLANGENHAUS

A visit to the Museums of Werdenberg is a fascinating, audiovisual experience: audio stories and stereo visualisations of the past link the two museums in a sweeping narrative of the past 800 years. Believe your ears, as you pass through soundscapes that evoke the lives once lived in the Schlan­genhaus and the castle!

 


The Count receives guests at a feast in the Knights Hall. Later, servants drag the heavy trunks of the new administrative official across the flagstones. What could the man from Glarus be transporting in them? The coughing of a patient in the waiting room of doctor Jo­hann Ulrich Hilty sounds really bad. Hopefully the doctor can make her feel better soon. Boys from the town steal three fish from the bailiff’s fish traps, only to be caught by the nightwatchman. At the Schlangenhaus, the geese are cackling in the stalls and there’s dancing in the living room. 

 

There’s also a sonic dimension to the relief model of the canton in the attic storey of Werdenberg Castle. The plashing of the water in the harbour at Rorschach, the screech of tyres in a multistorey carpark in the town of Wil, yodelling at the idyllic Voralpsee lake… The castle’s alive with sounds from the canton of St. Gallen!
